About us

SALTO Gymnastics Club is open seven days a week and provides coaching General and Artistic Gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics including Tumbling and Trampolining, Pre-School Gymnastics and runs PlayGym sessions for Mums and Tots.

Classes for toddlers to teens are available in all disciplines and gymnasts train from between one and fifteen hours per week depending on age and ability. All the coaches have British Gymnastics coaching qualifications at various levels.

The club boasts a loyal and dedicated number of coaches and volunteer helpers, many of whom have been with the club for in excess of fifteen years. Some of our coaches are retired gymnasts, some parents of past or present gymnasts who became involved in the sport through their children. The majority give their time free of charge rewarded only by the satisfaction of seeing any one of the gymnasts achieving something they could not do the day before. That is success.

The club regularly competes in competitions at all levels in all disciplines of the sport and over the years has had winners at every level from Novice to Club, County, Regional, National and even internationally to World Champion. The club holds its own annual competition. also giving all club members the opportunity to win a medal. This experience gives these gymnasts a tremendous boost in confidence and all are bursting with pride at their achievements.

SALTO runs courses to train coaches, which have been most successful and the club is proud to have been voted a Sports Club of the Year in the 2000 Luton Sports Council Awards. This was the second time it has achieved this prestigious accolade.

As the lease on our old premises came towards expiry, we set out to find and purchase new premises, and finally after many major setbacks, we moved in to our current premises, one mile from our previous location, in November 2004, which was originally an empty warehouse with only one toilet, to finally turn it into a prestigious gymnastics facility.

The club has survived many challenges to its survival. The club is grateful fro the ongoing and past support from local business and many charitable trusts, towards special projects but otherwise receives no external funding. The funds required to support the facility come from gymnasts subscriptions and fund-raising events, organized to raise money to purchase equipment as needed.

It continues to seek business sponsorship, large or small, to continue the development of this excellent training facility. With the clubs history, this would be a worthwhile investment in a Youth Organization which encourages and promotes a healthy and challenging opportunity for youngsters of all ages. The club, run on a voluntary basis, is a registered charity and is managed by a Board of Trustees looks after its financial needs and overall supervision of activities. The Trustees are assisted by a Management Committee, which oversees the day-to-day business.
